Detained televangelist Apollo Quiboloy declared that his decision to run for senator in the upcoming elections is a divine calling, saying he was instructed by God to enter politics.
In a pre-recorded video played at his proclamation rally at Ynares Gym in Pasig City, Quiboloy said he aims to address corruption and bring reforms to the government.
“This is all in accordance with the will of the Almighty Father, and I am grateful… We are now in the Glorification era, and I have a new mission,” he stated in Filipino.
Quiboloy, currently in detention, described his situation as a “blessing in disguise,” emphasizing that his candidacy was prompted by what he claimed to be political persecution.
“God directed me to enter the secular world of governance—politics—because that is the power that has been oppressing me,” he said.
His spokesperson and legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon, expressed confidence in Quiboloy’s campaign, highlighting strong volunteer support, including backing from former President Rodrigo Duterte and PDP-Laban.
“Many people are volunteering to help—not just Pastor Apollo’s followers. Even President Duterte and PDP-Laban are offering their support to help spread his message to the nation,” Torreon said.
Despite his absence, Quiboloy’s supporters remain hopeful for his candidacy. “People are campaigning for him… He is kind, helpful, and compassionate. It’s just sad that he’s not here,” said supporter Joan Mangabat.
Quiboloy is currently recovering from pneumonia at a hospital in Pasig.
