A Jeju Air flight bound for Jeju Island returned to Gimpo International Airport shortly after takeoff on Monday morning due to a landing gear issue, according The Korea Herald report.
Flight 7C101, which departed at 6:37 a.m., encountered the mechanical problem shortly after takeoff. The airline promptly informed the 161 passengers on board of the defect and safely landed back at Gimpo Airport at 7:25 a.m.
The incident involved a Boeing B737-800 aircraft, the same model as the plane involved in Sunday’s tragic crash in Muan County, which claimed 179 lives. In that disaster, all three landing gears reportedly failed.
Jeju Air operates 39 Boeing B737-800 planes out of its 41-aircraft fleet. The airline plans to resume operations of the affected flight using a replacement aircraft after addressing the mechanical issue.
