Angeles City in Pampanga has been awarded the title of Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination at the prestigious World Culinary Awards Gala Ceremony 2024, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This marks the first time the city has received this accolade, competing against other notable food destinations such as Hanoi, Vietnam; Kyoto, Japan; Taipei, Taiwan; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco celebrated the achievement, highlighting the city’s vibrant culinary scene. “This prestigious recognition of Angeles City as Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination underscores the exceptional talent, creativity, and dedication of its local chefs and food artisans,” she said in a press release.
Frasco also emphasized the global appeal of Angeles’ culinary heritage, which is led by its iconic dishes. “The city’s rich culinary heritage, led by its iconic dishes like sisig, continues to captivate food enthusiasts not only in the Philippines but across the world, showcasing the power of Filipino cuisine on the global stage,” she added.
Known as the “culinary capital” of the Philippines, Angeles City sits at the heart of Metro Clark, alongside neighboring cities Mabalacat and San Fernando. The city is famous for its signature dish, Pork Sisig, earning it the title of “Sisig Capital of the Philippines.” The annual Sisig Festival, locally called Sadsaran Qng Angeles, is a major celebration each December.
The World Culinary Awards, a counterpart to the World Travel Awards, honors excellence in the culinary industry through a year-long search for the world’s top culinary destinations and brands.
