Filipino pop rock band Ang Bandang Shirley has announced their disbandment following renewed discussions on past allegations against former member Emmanuel “Ean” Aguila.
In an official statement released on their social media pages, the band acknowledged that allegations against Aguila resurfaced in January with new information, significantly impacting the group.
“This January, past allegations towards Ean resurfaced with new information, which has significantly affected the band and the members. Let it be known that we strongly do not condone his behavior, and we urged him to take full responsibility for his actions,” the statement read.
Aguila later released his own statement and ultimately decided to leave the band. The remaining members expressed their support for his decision and emphasized their hope for the healing of all parties involved. However, they also confirmed that they would no longer continue as a band.
“This is the end for Ang Bandang Shirley,” they declared, thanking their fans for their support over the years.
Formed in 2003, Ang Bandang Shirley became a beloved name in the Filipino indie music scene, known for their introspective lyrics and infectious melodies. Their discography includes well-received albums such as Themesongs (2008), Tama Na Ang Drama (2012), and Favorite (2017). The band played a significant role in shaping the local independent music landscape, resonating with generations of fans.
