Filipino cycling team bags 3rd place at L’Étape Dubai, finishes 7th out of 21 teams at Spinneys 92

An all-Filipino squad is drawing attention in Dubai’s expanding amateur cycling circuit after posting notable results in two major races held at Expo City Dubai this year.

63 Mafia Racing Team secured third place in the team classification at L’Étape Dubai by Tour de France 2026, a 112-kilometer race staged on January 25. The group returned to competition on February 16 for the Spinneys 92 Challenge, where they placed 7th out of 21 teams.

Behind the podium result is a roster of riders balancing full-time careers and personal responsibilities. The team is composed of managers, engineers, nurses, technicians, mechanics, office professionals, students, and entrepreneurs who commit to structured training programs while maintaining their day jobs.

Erwin Gutierrez, who currently manages the team, said their achievements go beyond race standings. “Managing the team is tough , but rewarding knowing we developed something good for the community that we represent.” He expressed optimism that their performance will contribute to stronger Filipino representation within Dubai’s local cycling community.

Preparation often takes place around demanding schedules, with early morning road sessions before work and interval training after shifts. Recovery is managed between professional and family obligations, reflecting the discipline required to compete consistently in the amateur racing scene.

What began as weekend rides among kababayans has since developed into organized training, defined race tactics, and steady participation in competitive events across Dubai. The team’s lineup includes Erwin Gutierrez, Neil Del Villeres, Guy Suizo, Eric Esguerra, Jecho Lopez, Jan-Kim Nasimo, Marvin Jotic, Christopher Mabus, Christian Beltran, AJ Miranda, Leo Roxas, Michael Farre, Kayen Laresma, and Measian Langcamon.
