Alden Richards returns to Hong Kong as OWWA Ambassador to uplift OFWs

Alden Richards returned to Hong Kong not for a film shoot this time, but to personally meet with Overseas Filipino Workers as an ambassador of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

In a report aired on 24 Oras, the actor spent time engaging with Filipino workers and spoke candidly about the emotional struggles many OFWs face while living far from home. He emphasized how isolation can affect one’s well-being and shared his own understanding of such challenges.

“Mahirap siya kasi walang ibang kalaban ‘yung individuals kundi ang kanilang sarili and based on experience I’ve been there so I know how it feels,” he said.

He also underscored the need to recognize signs of emotional distress, noting that many do not realize they are already experiencing mental health issues. “Mahirap po siya kasi may mga iba pong dumadaan sa dark moments ng buhay nila at hindi nila alam na nakaka-experience na pala sila ng mental health issues,” he added.

Alden stressed that no OFW should feel alone. “Mahirap kasi na mag-isa. Mahirap maramdamang mag-isa ka at mahirap na ipinaparamdam sa ’yo ng ibang tao na mag-isa ka lang. So nandito ang OWWA,” he said.

His latest visit marks a different kind of homecoming to the city where he previously shot the blockbuster Hello, Love, Again, the sequel to the 2019 hit Hello, Love, Goodbye.
