Al Qudra Street expansion to benefit 400,000 residents with faster, smoother travel

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract for the Al Qudra Street Development Project, a large-scale infrastructure upgrade valued at AED 798 million. According to a WAM report, the project is set to improve mobility, ease congestion, and accommodate the city’s growing population, benefiting around 400,000 residents and visitors.

Stretching from the intersection of Al Qudra Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road via Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, the development includes multiple interchanges, 2,700 metres of bridges, and the expansion of 11.6 kilometres of road.

Upon completion, the project will significantly reduce travel time along Al Qudra Street from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes. The upgrades will increase road capacity and ease traffic flow in key areas such as Arabian Ranches, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Akoya, Mudon, DAMAC Hills, and The Sustainable City.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, highlighted the project’s strategic importance in enhancing Dubai’s east-west road network. He noted that key upgrades include a 600-metre bridge at the intersection with the connecting road between Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City, which will boost vehicle capacity from 6,600 to 19,200 per hour while cutting wait times at the junction by more than half.

Additional enhancements involve a 700-metre bridge at the Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street intersection, allowing for smoother transitions in all directions without disrupting main traffic. The project also includes a 900-metre bridge for vehicles heading toward Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport, along with service roads spanning three kilometres to improve connectivity with surrounding developments.

The extension of Al Qudra Street to Emirates Road will further support expanding residential communities such as Town Square, Mira, and DAMAC Hills 2, ensuring improved access and better traffic flow.
