Al Ghurair Centre expands with 25 new retail and dining units

Al Ghurair Centre, the pioneer shopping mall of Dubai, has ushered in a new era with the announcement of 25 new retail and dining spaces. This ambitious expansion is part of a larger renovation strategy that includes the introduction of a new entertainment complex and the planned unveiling of a comprehensive food hall.

Opening its doors in Deira back in 1981, the mall’s recent additions bring the total store count to over 240. Notable brands like Under Armour and Giordano have already opened shop in September, while sportswear giants Nike, Converse, and a larger format of Sun and Sand Sports are slated for launch later this month. Other popular names such as Fila, Homebox, and more are expected to be operational by year-end, with Zataar W Zeit, Brand Bazaar, and others scheduled for 2024.

The Centre expects to welcome around 15 million visitors in 2023, with the hope that these new ventures will lure even more foot traffic to what is already a landmark shopping destination in the region.

One such attraction is GLITCH, a sprawling family entertainment space covering 3,700 square meters. Since its June debut, GLITCH offers over 30 activities, such as 10-pin bowling, climbing walls, and soft-play areas. Boasting a daily average of close to 3,000 visitors and daily sales surpassing AED 30,000, there are plans to expand with GLITCH Laser and GLITCH Kart in 2024.

In terms of gastronomy, the forthcoming ‘street food’ hall, Flayva, will present 23 innovative F&B units. A blend of local and international food concepts, it will be able to host nearly 500 patrons in a 3,318 sq meter space, promising an unparalleled dining experience.

Reflecting on the mall’s evolution, Anwar Atari, CEO Chief Executive Officer – Properties, Commercial, and Residential, noted the challenges the pandemic posed for malls. “Despite the shifts in market dynamics due to COVID-19, Al Ghurair Centre has attained maximum occupancy levels, with both local and global brands seeking a presence,” he said.

Atari emphasized the Centre’s dedication to heightening the entertainment and leisure experiences for its visitors. “This journey began with the successful inauguration of GLITCH, and will soon incorporate an authentic street food hall and other dynamic ventures in the coming year,” he concluded.
