Akbayan vows to end ‘endo,’ support students, and combat political dynasties in 20th Congress

Akbayan party-list has set its legislative agenda for the 20th Congress, aiming to champion key reforms that promise job security, support for students, and an end to political dynasties.

Rep. Perci Cendaña, Akbayan’s second nominee, emphasized that their priority is to push for the passage of an anti-endo (end of contract) bill, which seeks to eliminate the widespread practice of labor contractualization.

“It is time for Filipinos to have security of tenure or assurance in their jobs,” Cendaña stressed in an ABS-CBN News report.

The party-list is also set to reintroduce the “Baon Bill,” which aims to provide a monthly allowance of PHP 5,000 to college students from families currently or previously benefiting from the government’s 4Ps program. The measure is intended to help young Filipinos complete their education and break the cycle of poverty.

Another crucial proposal in Akbayan’s legislative pipeline is a bill to enforce the anti-political dynasty provision enshrined in the Constitution.

“Kasama tayo sa nagpasa ng SK reform law kung saan nilagyan natin ng anti-political dynasty provision. Balak natin palawakin at i-cover ‘yung iba pang branches ng gobyerno,” Cendaña explained.

Akbayan is also preparing to advocate for other critical measures, including the Student Rights and Welfare Bill, the SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics) Equality Bill, and the Alternative Minerals Management Bill, which aims to regulate and ensure responsible mining practices in the country.
