The city of Ajman has introduced a new initiative aimed at motivating drivers to switch off their vehicle engines when halted at timed traffic signals. Under the directive of the municipality and planning department, the initiative, named ‘Turn off the engine,’ seeks to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
Implemented across Ajman, timed traffic signals will allow motorists sufficient time to restart their vehicles between the transition from red to green lights. The initiative aims to curtail exhaust emissions, minimize noise pollution from idling engines, and decrease fuel consumption.
Residents and visitors are urged to actively participate in this initiative, emphasizing the collective responsibility towards environmental preservation and sustainability.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Department’s Infrastructure Development Sector, highlighted the alignment of this initiative with the UAE’s sustainable theme for 2024.
