The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has ordered a temporary airspace restriction over Rizal Park (Luneta) and the EDSA Shrine as the nation braces for massive anti-corruption rallies.
In an advisory released Saturday, CAAP said the ban will take effect at 6 a.m. on Sunday, September 21, and remain in place until 6 a.m. the following day.
“All aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are prohibited from flying within a 15-nautical mile radius of the center of these locations, from the surface up to 10,000 feet,” the agency announced.
Authorities are anticipating large crowds not only in Metro Manila but also in protest sites across other cities. To secure the demonstrations, the Philippine National Police has deployed 50,000 personnel nationwide, working closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other government agencies.
The military has been on red alert since September 12 to ensure full readiness and to assist police forces in maintaining peace and order.
