A routine cleaning session at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 led to a surprising discovery early Thursday morning. Rosalinda Celero, an airport cleaner, was performing her daily duties in the departure area when she came across a pair of dirty socks stuffed with dollar bills valued at over P1 million.
The incident occurred when Celero swept the socks from beneath a gang chair used by passengers to put their shoes back on. She initially did not notice the significant amount of money until the socks got stuck in her dustpan, prompting her to inspect further. Inside, she found 202 dollar bills of various denominations.
Celero promptly reported the find to the NAIA Terminal 3 lost and found section, where an inventory confirmed the value of the recovered money. The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is now reviewing CCTV footage to identify the owner of the socks.
It remains unclear how the unidentified passenger managed to pass through airport security without the money being detected. According to Bangko Sentral regulations, passengers are permitted to carry a maximum of $10,000 in their hand-carry luggage.
