Airfares expected to drop in October as fuel surcharge reaches year-low

Travelers can expect lower airfares starting next month as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announced a reduction in the fuel surcharge, marking the lowest rate since August of last year.

In an advisory, CAB revealed that the fuel surcharge for October will be downgraded to Level 4, a step down from the current Level 5. This change will reduce additional charges for passengers, with domestic flight surcharges ranging from P117 to P342 and international flights from P385.70 to P2,867.82.

These are notably lower compared to Level 5 rates, which charged passengers an extra P151 to P542 for domestic flights and P498.03 to P3,703.11 for international routes.

Fuel surcharges are separate from the base fare and are used by airlines to recover fuel costs. This reduction is expected to encourage more travel during the holiday season.
