The Philippines and Canada marked a new chapter in connectivity as Air Canada officially launched its first-ever direct flight from Vancouver to Manila on April 1, 2024, at the Vancouver International Airport.
Philippine Consul General in Vancouver Gina A. Jamoralin led the Philippine delegation at the inaugural event, organized in partnership with the Philippine Department of Tourism-San Francisco. She described the new non-stop, year-round route as “a bridge across the Pacific,” linking two dynamic nations beyond just geography.
“This flight not only makes it easier for Canadians to explore the Philippines’ world-class destinations but also strengthens business, trade, and investment opportunities,” she said in her remarks.
The event drew key figures including Vancouver City Councilor Mike Klassen, Asia Pacific Foundation CEO Jeff Nankivell, Musqueam Nation’s Alec Guerin, YVR Airport’s VP for External Affairs Mike McNaney, and Air Canada’s Tim Liu.
Filipino hospitality was on full display, with Hapag Ihaw-Ihaw and Kulinarya serving traditional dishes like adobo, lechon, and lumpia. Goldilocks capped off the celebration with a custom jeepney-shaped cake. About 100 guests attended, with media coverage by OMNI TV.
Air Canada, the country’s largest airline and a founding member of Star Alliance, now offers this direct link between Manila and Vancouver as part of its growing international network.
