What appeared to be a serious vehicular fire in the early hours of September 4, 2025, along the road in Barangay 20, Parola, Manila, turned out to be a false alarm—triggering a full emergency response that turned up unnecessary.
Photos initially circulated online showing a blue truck engulfed in flames, thick black smoke billowing into the sky, alarming netizens and prompting a swift response from local fire brigades. Several fire trucks rushed to the scene, with responders quickly mobilizing and blocking off parts of the road to control the supposed emergency.
However, upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the truck was not on fire. The alarming image that went viral was not reflective of the actual situation they encountered. The cause of the false image remains unclear as of this writing, but authorities say the post misled both the public and emergency responders.
A member of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office added that hoaxes like this stretch the city’s emergency resources and could prevent them from responding to real incidents.
Officials are now calling for accountability from whoever shared the misleading post. Authorities are urging the public to think twice before spreading unverified information that may cause panic or misuse of emergency services.
