Ai-Ai delas Alas confirms separation from husband Gerald Sibayan

Veteran actress Ai-Ai delas Alas has confirmed her separation from husband Gerald Sibayan, ending their nearly decade-long relationship. Speaking on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on her 60th birthday, Ai-Ai tearfully recounted receiving a surprising text from Gerald in the early hours of October 14, announcing his decision to part ways.

“Hiwalay na kami. Last month pa,” Ai-Ai revealed, sharing that Gerald’s message stated his desire to have children and that he was no longer happy. The actress admitted she was shocked and confused by the timing and delivery of the news. “Bakit ngayon? Bakit ngayong oras na ‘to? Sana hinintay mo man lang ako makauwi sa Amerika,” she said.

Despite the suddenness of the split, Ai-Ai said she had always mentally prepared for the possibility, given their 29-year age gap. “Actually, nung nagpakasal ako kay Gerald, nire-ready ko naman ang sarili ko sa ganitong magiging sitwasyon… Kasi alam ko na bata pa si Gerald,” she admitted.

Ai-Ai shared that communication between the two ceased after the initial message, as Gerald made his decision clear. She also opened up about the emotional toll of trying to have children through in vitro fertilization, revealing that she had hoped to surprise him with their last remaining embryo, which he ultimately did not want.

While Ai-Ai expressed a gut feeling about a possible third party, she refrained from fighting for the relationship. “Nagtira naman ako kasi alam ko na mangyayari uli yon… Kasi nung 2019, nag-cheat na rin siya noon,” she said, alluding to past trust issues.

Reflecting on the situation, Ai-Ai acknowledged that Gerald’s priorities may have changed. “Ngayon, meron na siyang karapatan to fly,” she noted, accepting that he had chosen a different path.

Despite the heartbreak, Ai-Ai stated she has no regrets, saying, “Tinray ko naman ang lahat ng gusto niya,” and emphasized that she gave her all to their marriage. The couple, who first married in 2017 and renewed their vows in Las Vegas in 2022, had just marked their 10th anniversary in April.
