The Dubai Court of Appeal has reduced the penalty imposed on an Asian maid after her employer’s dog injured a 14-year-old boy in Emirates Hills.
According to a Gulf Today report, the maid was initially fined AED 3,000 by a lower court for negligence in controlling the dog. However, the appellate court lowered the fine to AED 1,500 after reviewing her case.
The incident happened when the teenager entered a lift and was suddenly attacked by the dog, which bit his right leg. His mother filed a complaint, saying the maid failed to take proper precautions to prevent the attack. The boy was later treated at a hospital.
During the investigation, the maid denied negligence, saying she had been working for her employer for only three months. She explained that she had been holding the dog on a leash outside the lift when the doors opened, and the animal unexpectedly jumped inside, injuring the child. She added that she immediately returned the dog to the apartment and was shocked by its sudden aggression.
Despite her defense, the court found her guilty but showed leniency by reducing the fine.
