Actor Gerald Anderson was awarded a “search and rescue medal” by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for his volunteer efforts during Typhoon Carina. The award was presented by PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan in a ceremony at the PCG headquarters in Port Area, Manila.
Anderson, who holds the rank of Auxiliary Commander in the PCG, was recognized for his selfless act of rescuing a stranded family in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City, amid severe flooding caused by the typhoon. A video of the rescue, which showed Anderson navigating floodwaters with a makeshift boat, went viral on social media.
PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo highlighted Anderson’s consistent participation in rescue operations and disaster relief, mentioning his involvement in past efforts during Typhoon Ondoy, aid to Aeta communities in Zambales, support for recovering families in Marawi, and donations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
