Abu Dhabi urges public to avoid spreading rumours, warns of up to AED 500,000 fine

Authorities in Abu Dhabi are reminding residents to be cautious about sharing unverified information online, emphasizing the serious consequences of spreading false or misleading content.

In an advisory issued on Friday, April 12, Abu Dhabi Police urged the public to rely only on credible news sources and avoid spreading rumours that could disrupt public trust or safety. The message highlighted the importance of verifying information before posting or forwarding anything on social media.

The police also stressed that promoting accurate and responsible communication aligns with the values of positive citizenship and strengthens community responsibility.

Residents were warned that sharing fake news or content that damages the country’s image could result in hefty penalties, including fines of up to AED 500,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
