Abu Dhabi scorches at 50.4°C as UAE braces for intense summer heat

The summer heat has arrived early in the UAE, with temperatures reaching a scorching 50.4°C in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi—one of the highest readings of the year so far.

Despite still being in May, the weather has already shifted into full summer mode, with fair skies and rising humidity gripping much of the country. Residents, especially those along the coast, are feeling the effects of the intensified heat, as even the light to moderate winds offer minimal relief.

According to forecasts, the conditions will remain consistent into Saturday, May 24, with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Winds are expected to shift from southeasterly to northwesterly, peaking at around 30 km/h, while sea conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will stay calm.

But beyond the sunny skies and light winds, the real concern is the blistering heat. As temperatures push past 50°C, authorities continue to urge the public to prioritize hydration, sun protection, and limited outdoor activity during peak hours.
