Abu Dhabi residents see peak travel delays reduced to just 20 seconds with new bridges

Travel time for Abu Dhabi residents has been significantly reduced with the opening of two new bridges, cutting delays during morning peak hours to just 20 seconds. The Dh315-million project, announced by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), aims to enhance traffic flow along the key route connecting Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street to Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street, benefiting commuters heading to central Abu Dhabi, Musaffah, and Hudayriyat Island.

The new infrastructure includes a three-lane flyover and a two-lane bridge, collectively accommodating up to 7,500 vehicles per hour. Spanning 742 meters with sustainable landscaping and upgraded pedestrian paths, the bridges are part of a broader effort to future-proof the city’s road network.

DMT Chairman Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa emphasized the project’s role in supporting Abu Dhabi’s rapid economic growth and commitment to creating a seamless and sustainable urban transport system.
