The population of Abu Dhabi has surged to 3,789,860, marking an 83% increase compared to 2011, according to the preliminary results of the 2023 Abu Dhabi Census. This census, the first entirely based on administrative records, was reported by the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) on Tuesday.
The census reveals that the male population stands at 2,541,465, representing 67% of the total, while the female population is 1,248,395, accounting for 33%. The median age in the emirate is 33 years.
The Abu Dhabi region remains the most populated, housing 2,495,925 people or 66% of the total population. Al Ain follows with 1,009,735 people (27%), and Al Dhafra has 284,205 residents (7%).
Economic growth has driven employment in Abu Dhabi to 2,522,390 individuals, reflecting an 82% rise since 2011. The workforce consists of 46% white-collar and 54% blue-collar workers. Residential and non-residential units have also increased by 66%, totaling 754,555 units.
Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi, attributed the success of the census to the support of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Al Kuttab emphasized the significance of modern and real-time databases in improving service quality and supporting development plans.
SCAD Acting Director General Abdulla Gharib Alqemzi highlighted the alignment of the statistical ecosystem with Abu Dhabi’s digital transformation goals, stating, “SCAD is dedicated to ensuring that the statistical ecosystem aligns with the goals of digital transformation in the emirate.”
