Abu Dhabi has launched a dedicated beach space for the visually impaired, offering a wide range of free and accessible services to support their leisure needs in a safe and inclusive environment.
Spanning 1,000 square meters, the newly designated area is located near Gate 3 of the Corniche. The initiative was developed by the Department of Municipalities and Transport in partnership with the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, as part of the UAE’s wider push to foster community inclusion. The effort also aligns with President Sheikh Mohamed’s declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Community.”
“This beach has been recognized by the World Disability Union as a Disability-Friendly Beach, underscoring its compliance with global accessibility standards,” Abu Dhabi City Municipality said in a statement.
The beach features a set of carefully designed services to ensure independence and enjoyment for visually impaired visitors. These include a Braille service guide, tactile tiles along paved pathways, instructional Braille signs, and a guiding rope with alert bells to direct users to the water. A trained lifeguard will supervise the swimming zone, while a licensed nurse will be present during operational hours to provide first aid if needed.
Free shuttle services, floating water-accessible wheelchairs, dedicated restrooms, complimentary drinking water stations, and special parking areas have also been provided. Entry is free for visually impaired guests and one accompanying person.
The beach is open daily from 6am to 12am, with swimming allowed until sunset. Authorities say the facility is a step forward in creating inclusive spaces that meet the highest safety and accessibility standards for all members of society.
