Abu Dhabi Marathon set to host over 33,000 runners tomorrow, Dec 14

The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon returns for its sixth edition tomorrow, 14 December, bringing together over 33,000 participants, including elite athletes and community runners. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and ADNOC, the event is the largest community sports gathering on the Abu Dhabi waterfront, showcasing the city’s iconic landmarks.

The 42.195 km marathon kicks off at 6:00 am from ADNOC Headquarters on Corniche Road, passing by key landmarks such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Qasr Al Hosn before concluding near Baynunah Public Park. Additional races include a 10 km run at 6:30 am, a 2.5 km race at 8:45 am, and a 5 km race at 9:30 am, encouraging fitness and an active lifestyle among participants.

With prize money exceeding $300,000, the top male and female marathon winners will each receive $50,000, while wheelchair race winners in various categories will share cash prizes.

The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon Sports Village, open from 4:00 am to 2:00 pm, offers activities such as fitness classes, live music, and children’s entertainment. Sponsors like Nike, Daman, and The Filipino Times have supported the event, ensuring a world-class experience.

Officials, including H.E. Aref Hamad Al Awani of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized the marathon’s role in promoting unity, health, and resilience. Elite athletes like Chala Ketema and Catherine Reline Amanang Ole expressed excitement about the event, with Ketema aiming for a personal best and Ole making her marathon debut.
