Abu Dhabi has launched a round-the-clock bus service to Dubai, specifically catering to the participants of COP28. The service, comprising an all-electric fleet of nine buses, operates 44 trips daily, shuttling passengers from Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A directly to the COP28 venue at Expo City Dubai.
This initiative, part of the Green Bus programme, is spearheaded by Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) under the Department of Municipalities and Transport. Ateeq Al Mazrouei, the director of ITC’s planning department, highlights the uniqueness of this service, noting its role as the first 24-hour intercity bus transportation between the emirates.
The service is not only notable for its round-the-clock operation but also for its environmental benefits. The fleet covers a total distance of 520km per day, effectively reducing carbon emissions by 3.7 tonnes daily.
Post-COP28, which concludes on December 12, these buses will be integrated into Abu Dhabi’s public transport system. This integration aligns with the expansion of green bus services throughout Abu Dhabi. The buses, which require just two hours for a full charge, are expected to cover approximately 3,150km daily, contributing to an annual reduction of over 900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
This initiative marks a significant step towards minimizing the environmental impact of public transport and supports Abu Dhabi’s commitment to environmental protection. It is part of the emirate’s broader strategy to promote sustainable transport solutions and provide efficient services for both residents and visitors.
Al Mazrouei further emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the Abu Dhabi Government’s strategy, aiming to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.
