The Abu Dhabi Media Office announced on Tuesday, October 31, that the Abu Dhabi International Airport will undergo a name change. Beginning February 9, 2024, it will be recognized as Zayed International Airport.
This announcement came just before the unveiling of the airport’s new Terminal A on November 1. Airlines are scheduled to commence operations from this terminal in a phased manner over the next two weeks. All 28 airlines are expected to be fully operational from Terminal A by November 15.
The state-of-the-art Terminal A boasts the capacity to accommodate 79 aircraft simultaneously and can serve up to 45 million passengers annually, translating to around 11,000 travelers per hour. Notably, it is the world’s first terminal to incorporate nine interconnected biometric systems for enhanced passenger screening.
Terminal A also promises to be a haven for travelers and shoppers alike. It will feature 163 retail, food, and beverage outlets, including popular names like Starbucks and Jones the Grocer. Luxury brands such as Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent have also set up their stores in the terminal. Additionally, for those seeking relaxation, the terminal houses a 138-bedroom hotel and two health and beauty spas.
