Abu Dhabi authorities are tightening regulations on littering, imposing hefty fines on violators as part of efforts to maintain cleanliness in the city. The Department of Municipalities and Transport has revised its guidelines, with penalties now reaching up to Dhs4,000 for repeat offenders.
Improperly disposing of waste, such as leaving trash outside designated bins in public areas, will result in a Dhs500 fine for first-time violators. Those caught a second time will be fined Dhs1,000, while third-time or repeat offenders will face a Dhs2,000 penalty. The same structure applies to cigarette butts discarded on the ground.
For more serious offenses, such as dumping general waste in non-designated areas, the penalties are higher. The fine starts at Dhs1,000 for the first violation, increases to Dhs2,000 for a second offense, and escalates to Dhs4,000 for repeated violations.
Authorities are also encouraging residents to adopt eco-friendly habits by using recycling platforms such as RECAPP and Reloop. These apps facilitate the proper disposal of recyclables, with RECAPP offering free collection services for plastics and cans, while Reloop provides paid collection for paper, glass, clothes, electronics, and other household waste.
