Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) has reached a new milestone, welcoming 29.4 million passengers in 2024—a significant 28.1% increase from the previous year.
Etihad Airways played a key role in this growth, expanding its network to over 125 destinations and launching 29 new routes. The airport also saw the addition of eight new airlines, including British Airways, Air Astana, and Aegean Airlines.
Aircraft movements surged by 10%, rising from 226,362 in 2023 to 249,747 in 2024, with notable increases in flights from the UK, India, Qatar, and Egypt. Meanwhile, cargo operations grew by 21%, handling 678,990 tonnes, further strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global trade hub.
Enhancements in technology and infrastructure have also improved passenger experience. The introduction of a US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) facility has streamlined travel to the United States, while biometric check-in, self-service baggage drops, and e-gates are making the journey more seamless. Additionally, the Northern Runway Rehabilitation Project has reinforced the airport’s efficiency.
Abu Dhabi is also making significant investments in aviation logistics. The Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone (ADAFZ) saw substantial expansion, with an AED 85 million warehousing facility in Al Falah District and an AED 320 million Musataha Agreement to develop top-tier logistics hubs. The upcoming East Midfield Cargo Terminal (EMCT) will further boost the emirate’s logistics capabilities.
