Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to motorists against allowing passengers to hang out of windows or remove their heads or bodies out of the sunroof, emphasizing the serious risks involved. Through its social media channels, the authority has reminded drivers to follow safety rules strictly to avoid severe penalties.
Violators will face a hefty fine of Dh2,000, a 60-day vehicle impoundment, and 23 traffic points for such reckless behavior. The police highlighted that these dangerous acts threaten not only the safety of the individuals in the vehicle but also pose a significant risk to other road users, potentially leading to grave injuries or fatal accidents.
This announcement follows a recent incident reported by Dubai Police, where children were seen sitting on moving car roofs and hanging out of windows. In addition to the immediate dangers, vehicle owners faced a Dh50,000 fee to retrieve impounded vehicles for similar offenses.
