UAE authorities caution public on counterfeit currency dealers

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has issued a stern warning to both residents and visitors in the region, urging them to be vigilant of deceptive currency exchange dealers promoting enticing deals.

A video disseminated by ADJD on Thursday elaborated on how these rogue traders either distribute counterfeit banknotes or deal with funds procured from illicit avenues. The ADJD has strongly advised against converting foreign currency with any unauthorized dealers.

In a released statement, the ADJD noted: “Deceptive actors, including counterfeiters and scam artists, exploit holiday seasons, advertising discounted foreign currency rates on social media platforms.” The authority emphasized the importance of sidestepping these so-called ‘alluring’ offers and of the dangers of getting entangled in questionable transactions.

For a secure and legitimate currency exchange experience, the public is recommended to approach recognized banks or licensed money exchange centers.

The ADJD also underscored the need for individuals and businesses to abstain from interacting with these illicit groups, highlighting their involvement in activities like money laundering and the propagation of fake currency notes.
