Comelec’s internet voting system gets green light, OFWs encouraged to register

OFW Partylist Representative Marissa Magsino revealed on January 30 that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is moving forward with the implementation of an internet voting system for overseas Filipinos. Magsino urged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to register for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, with a registration deadline set for September 30, 2024.

This initiative is in line with the provisions of House Bill 6770, which Magsino filed in January 2023. The bill aims to amend the Overseas Voting Act of 2003 (Republic Act 10590) to permit voting through email, web-based portals, and other internet-based technologies approved by Comelec.

To ensure a smooth registration process, the Commission on Elections had also issued a reminder on January 1 through social media, urging overseas Filipino voters to register by visiting the Philippine Embassy/Consulate General in their respective host countries or designated registration centers in the Philippines.

Furthermore, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi had posted a reminder in December 2022 for Overseas Filipinos residing in the United Arab Emirates, encouraging them to register for the 2025 National Elections.
