Ajman embraces sustainability, bans single-use plastic bags from 2024

Ajman has announced a ban on single-use plastic bags across the emirate starting from January 2024. This decision, communicated by the Ajman Municipality, aligns with the broader national efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote eco-friendly alternatives.

This groundbreaking measure will see the prohibition of single-use plastic bags in all shopping centers and sales outlets within the emirate. The initiative follows Ministerial Decision No. (380) of the year 2022, which focuses on regulating single-use products in the UAE’s markets. It also complies with Federal Law No. (2) of 2018, which addresses integrated waste management.

The ban is part of a concerted effort led by the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment, aiming to make the UAE a plastic bag-free nation.
