Philippine government aids 452 OFWs impacted by New Zealand firm’s shutdown

452 Filipino workers have been significantly affected due to the closure of a New Zealand-based company, ELE Group of companies. These workers have reached out for assistance from the Philippine government following the firm’s bankruptcy.

Hans Leo Cacdac, the Migrant Workers Officer in Charge, revealed this information during a press briefing on Friday. He emphasized that these Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are currently receiving government support. “We have around 452 identified OFWs seeking assistance, and we are in the process of providing aid to them,” Cacdac stated. Additionally, he mentioned that 50 other individuals, comprising New Zealand residents or dual citizens, are being helped by the embassy.

Cacdac informed that the affected Filipinos have been assured that efforts are underway to find them new employment opportunities. “Some have reportedly found new jobs; we are in the process of confirming this information,” he added.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) had earlier reported that the closure of the ELE Group of companies occurred just before the Christmas holidays.
