UAE authorities intercept illegals hiding in tiny boxes under vehicles at border

The Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority (SPCFZA) apprehended two individuals attempting to infiltrate the country. The infiltrators were discovered in small iron boxes placed beneath the rear trunks of two SUVs.

The detection was made possible by X-ray scanners which identified the unusual hiding spots. Subsequently, a video released by the SPCFZA showed officers breaking open the rear bumpers of the vehicles to reveal the infiltrators crammed inside the 2-foot boxes, with extremely limited space to move.

Neither of the infiltrators was in possession of any identification documents. The drivers of the SUVs, along with the infiltrators, have been handed over to the relevant legal authorities for necessary legal proceedings.

Mohammed Ibrahim Al Raisi, the director of Terminals and Border Points Affairs at SPCFZA, highlighted the significance of such operations. He attributed the need for heightened security to the UAE’s considerable economic and developmental progress, which attracts individuals attempting illegal entry into the country.

Al Raisi also emphasized the efficacy of Sharjah Customs’ advanced systems in thwarting smuggling attempts and safeguarding the nation against any threats to its security and the well-being of its citizens.
