Emirates Road shut from 1am to 5am nightly near Sharjah until September 18

Drivers using Emirates Road in the Dubai-to-Sharjah direction face a series of overnight restrictions starting this week, with a stretch of the highway set to close during the pre-dawn hours for seven consecutive days.

The measure takes effect Friday, September 11, and continues until 5am on Friday, September 18, 2026, according to Sharjah’s Roads and Transport Authority, which announced the plan on Friday. Each closure will last four hours.

Rather than shutting the road for extended stretches, the RTA has confined the work to a narrow overnight window running from 1am to 5am daily, keeping the impact on commuters to a minimum.

Behind the restriction is infrastructure work tied to the Etihad Rail project, the authority said.

The RTA asked those on the road to heed posted signage and comply with the arrangements set up around the work zone, steps intended to keep vehicles moving safely past the site.

In its statement, the authority extended its thanks to motorists for their patience and expressed regret for any disruption the overnight closures may bring.
