Filipino seafarers who encounter emergencies, welfare problems, or dangers along their routes can reach the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration directly, the agency said in an advisory posted on its Facebook page.
The reminder comes as security threats continue across several high-risk maritime zones, among them the Black Sea, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Aden. OWWA said it has strengthened the ways seafarers and their relatives can ask for help while a crew member is aboard ship or abroad.
Relatives worried about a seafarer’s safety, or who need information about his situation, were also urged to approach the agency without delay. OWWA stressed that no one should wait for a problem to worsen before seeking support.
The agency listed several ways to make contact. Its round-the-clock hotline, 1348, connects callers to a 24/7 Operations Center staffed every day of the week by agents who log, refer, and follow up on concerns raised by overseas Filipino workers and their families. Assistance is also available through Viber and WhatsApp at +63 927 824 5975, and by email at owwacares@owwa.gov.ph.
To speed up coordination, OWWA advised families to have certain details ready when possible: the seafarer’s name, the name of his vessel, his current location, his manning agency, and a short account of the problem. At the same time, it warned against posting passports, Seafarer’s Record Books, contracts, contact information, or other sensitive personal data in public comment sections.
Cases touching on a seafarer’s right to refuse sailing, deployment matters, maritime safety, or the compliance of an employer, principal, or manning agency will be referred by OWWA to the Department of Migrant Workers and the appropriate office for action, the agency said.
