‘Ate yung Rigga, parang Cubao lang’: Vlogger Poca’s first Dubai summer goes viral with over a million views

Poca stepped off the plane in Dubai and felt like something had leaned over and whispered a warning about the heat. That is where the now-viral Reels begins, and the roughly 1.1 million Filipinos who watched it knew the feeling before the first sentence finished.

The content creator, known for comedic Taglish monologues, posted the clip on August 8, 2026, documenting a first-ever arrival in the Emirates at the height of summer. It pulled close to 40,000 reactions, about 2,100 shares, nearly 2,000 comments, and around 1.1 million views by posting time — almost all of it from Filipinos in the Gulf.

The distinction Poca draws is the one every resident makes. The heat is dry, not sticky. “Hindi siya yung malagkit” [it’s not the humid kind], the creator says, describing air that keeps the pores shut in a way Manila’s wet heat never does. Then comes the tour of small shocks: so many Filipinos in one spot that Poca compares the area to Cubao; tap water hot enough to joke about boiling vegetables, delivered as “nilagang daliri” [boiled fingers] while washing up at the hotel; and a bidet that lands with wide-eyed astonishment and a one-word review — powerful. Poca calls it fun, calls it new, and lays out the rest of the trip: Abu Dhabi for a week, then back to Dubai for another.

The comment section filled with residents doing what residents do — welcoming the newcomer and correcting the timing. Alvin Alvz Vlogs told Poca to come back at the end of November, when the weather breaks. Jana Lorraine greeted the creator to “Budaaaaiii” and led a survival list with drinking chai. Medife De Horsie added a warm welcome to the UAE.

The tap-water bit did the most damage. Nelia Sapiera Sharma pictured brewing coffee mid-shower. Loretta Loren Araña voted the boiled-finger line the winner of the thread. Sheil Dien handed over the same rule everyone lives by — go December to February, never summer. Augrey Viola Morales agreed the tap could genuinely make a cup of coffee in that heat.

Poca flies to Abu Dhabi next, then returns to Dubai for a second week.
