A motorcycle rider caught on video weaving through traffic at more than 290 kilometers per hour has been taken into custody by Dubai Police, who confiscated the bike and moved to prosecute him.
The footage showed the rider balancing on a single wheel and cutting between moving vehicles, conduct that Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, described as an open dismissal of traffic rules and public safety.
Under the enforcement action, the motorcycle was seized in line with Local Decree No 30 of 2023 on vehicle impoundment. Releasing the bike carries a penalty reaching AED 50,000, and the rider was handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal steps.
Bin Suwaidan warned that behavior of this kind can turn deadly almost instantly rather than counting as an ordinary infraction. A rider who loses control above 290km/h, he noted, often slides across long stretches of road, risking fatal crashes, severe injuries, or lasting disability.
“Moving between vehicles at this insane speed poses an extreme danger, making a collision difficult to avoid, whether by the rider or the driver of the other vehicle,” he said.
He singled out riding on one wheel as especially hazardous. “Driving on one wheel is one of the most dangerous stunts, because it eliminates a large part of the motorcycle’s balance and reduces the rider’s ability to steer and brake, and doubles the probability of it skidding or swerving suddenly in the presence of any bump or object on the road, or when wind blows or the road surface condition changes,” Bin Suwaidan affirmed.
He maintained that such recklessness would draw no leniency, pointing to smart monitoring systems and on-the-ground enforcement teams as tools well equipped to track down and detain offenders.
