UAE government employees get New Year’s Day off for extended weekend

The UAE has officially declared Monday, January 1, as a New Year holiday for federal government employees. This announcement, made by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, was communicated through an Instagram advisory on Thursday.

With this decision, federal government employees are set to enjoy an extended weekend as they welcome the New Year. The UAE, known for its vibrant celebrations and fireworks displays, offers a festive atmosphere for residents and tourists alike during this time.

Additionally, the UAE Cabinet had previously released a list of public holidays for the year 2024, revealing that residents can expect at least 13 public holidays. Notably, four of these holidays have the potential to create extended weekends, enhancing leisure and travel opportunities for residents. The longest break in the 2024 calendar is anticipated to be a six-day holiday, providing ample time for family gatherings, tourism, and relaxation.
