Kuwait’s education ministry has revoked the operating license of the country’s sole Iranian school and ordered it closed, according to a ministry source who spoke to AFP. The move follows a stretch of the recent Middle East war during which the Gulf state was hit by repeated Iranian strikes.
The official decision, reviewed by AFP, states that “The Minister of Education issued a decision to revoke the educational license of the private Iranian school and close it down.” Enrollment for incoming students has been halted for the upcoming academic year, and the ministry has directed families to move their children to alternative schools.
No justification for the closure was offered by the source. Kuwait was among several Gulf countries that hosted American forces and drew Iranian fire during the conflict, including after the collapse of a June ceasefire between the two sides.
