Angat Buhay has extended relief to families displaced by severe flooding in Davao City, distributing hot meals and clean drinking water to residents of Barangay Talomo Proper in the wake of the southwest monsoon rains that battered the city.
In a Facebook post, the non-profit organization said the assistance was carried out with Tindog Tagum, a member of its Angat Bayanihan Volunteer Network. The group noted that many affected families remained without water and electricity following the continuous heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat.
Talomo Proper was among the communities inundated when the Talomo River overflowed during the flooding that struck Davao City on the night of July 24, sending water levels rising to nearly rooftop height in some areas and forcing widespread evacuations and rescues. Several barangays in the Talomo and Tugbok districts were affected, with at least one, Barangay Los Amigos, declaring a state of calamity.
Angat Buhay thanked Tindog Tagum and its volunteers for providing immediate aid to communities hit by the disaster and directed supporters to its Bayanihan donation page to sustain relief operations.
Angat Pinas, Inc., commonly known as Angat Buhay, is a Filipino non-governmental organization founded by former Vice President Leni Robredo. It mobilizes a nationwide volunteer network to carry out community programs spanning education, health and nutrition, disaster relief, and civic engagement.
The organization continues to coordinate with local partners as recovery efforts proceed across the flood-hit districts.
