Heads up, bookworms! Book fair in UAE sells books starting at AED2

Book lovers in Sharjah are in for a treat as the Big Bad Wolf Book Fair opens its doors from December 19 to January 7, promising an extensive collection of discounted books. The fair, which operates from 10am to 12pm, has been eagerly anticipated by the reading community.

In an interview with Khaleej Times, Andrew Yap, co-founder and managing director of Big Bad Wolf, shared insights into the fair’s mission and what attendees can expect at the Sharjah edition. “We aim to change the world through books, especially targeting children to foster a love for reading,” Yap said. The name ‘Big Bad Wolf,’ he explained, is designed to be memorable and to draw children to the event.

Yap revealed that discounts at the fair start at an impressive 85%, with some books priced as low as Dh2. The average discount hovers around 75%, offering a budget-friendly haven for book enthusiasts. With over 50,000 titles spanning various genres like fiction, non-fiction, and children’s literature, the fair promises something for every reader.

The Sharjah edition marks the first time the fair is held in the city, known for its cultural richness and love for literature. Previously, residents had to travel to Dubai for similar events, but now the fair is right at their doorstep. Yap expressed excitement about serving Sharjah’s community of avid readers and students.

Yap also spoke highly of the UAE government’s support for the event and emphasized the importance of making books accessible to children. He advocates for a balance between bookstores and restaurants, stating, “As you feed your stomach, you should feed your brain.”

Looking ahead, Yap mentioned plans to expand Big Bad Wolf to other emirates, including Abu Dhabi, and highlighted the importance of media support in achieving this goal.
