Philippines ranks second lowest in global student assessment

The Philippines has been ranked as the second lowest performing country in reading, mathematics, and science, according to the latest results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) released today.

PISA, conducted every three years by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), evaluates the academic abilities of 15-year-olds in participating countries. The assessment focuses on students’ capability to apply their knowledge and skills to real-life challenges.

This marks the Philippines’ second participation in PISA since its debut in 2018. In its first participation, the country scored the lowest in reading comprehension and second lowest in mathematics and science literacy.

The 2022 data revealed that the Dominican Republic is the lowest-ranking country, while China emerged as the top performer.
