Dubai Customs officers at Dubai International Airport apprehended an Asian passenger for attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of marijuana. The passenger, attempting to deceive authorities, had ground the marijuana and concealed it as “henna” in his luggage.
The incident unfolded when the customs inspectors became suspicious of a bag during the inspection process. The bag, arriving from an Asian country, showed unusual densities in the images obtained from inspection devices. The Airport Passenger Operations Department then closely monitored both the bag and its owner.
Upon conducting a thorough manual search, the officers discovered 8.9 kilograms of marijuana in the possession of the passenger, who exhibited signs of confusion during the investigation. The narcotics were promptly confiscated, and the passenger was handed over to the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police for further legal proceedings.
Ibrahim Al-Kamali, the Director of the Passenger Operations Department at Dubai Customs, highlighted the critical role of the department in deterring smuggling attempts through various customs points. With the increasing flow of passengers into Dubai, Al-Kamali stressed the importance of constant vigilance to prevent the entry of harmful substances, particularly drugs, into the community.
