Routine baggage inspection at Ninoy Aquino International Airport ended in the arrest of a Filipino traveler on Thursday, after Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel found roughly 8.91 kilograms of a substance believed to be marijuana hidden among his checked-in items.
The traveler had flown in from Bangkok, Thailand, and was processed at Terminal 1 when the contraband surfaced. Authorities place the haul’s worth on the street at around P13.365 million.
Suspicion was first raised when the bag passed through X-ray equipment during standard screening. A Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) canine unit subsequently signaled the presence of narcotics, reinforcing what the scan had indicated. The substance is commonly referred to as “Kush.”
With the seizure documented, the recovered material was handed to the relevant authorities, who will carry out additional testing as part of the continuing case.
