Over 6kg of marijuana seized from passenger at Muscat airport

Seventeen packages of marijuana totalling 6.179 kilograms were found concealed inside a traveller’s personal baggage during routine inspection procedures at Muscat International Airport, Omani customs authorities announced.

The passenger was taken into custody following the discovery, with the confiscated narcotics transferred to the appropriate agencies for legal proceedings.

Oman’s border security apparatus has recorded a sustained increase in drug interdiction operations in recent years, with customs, police, and security agencies reporting seizures at airports, seaports, and land crossings alike.

Officials have consistently cautioned that narcotics trafficking offences under Omani law carry severe consequences, including extended prison sentences and substantial financial penalties.
