Fort Santiago and Centro de Turismo Intramuros are opening their gates at no charge to overseas Filipino workers and their families from May 25 to 31, 2026, ahead of the official observance of Migrant Workers Month in June.
The weeklong program, called “Pasyal Pamilya: Balik-Bayani sa Walled City,” is a joint undertaking by the Department of Tourism, the Intramuros Administration, and the Department of Migrant Workers. OFWs can enter both sites for free by presenting a valid OWWA ID or Overseas Employment Certificate, and may bring as many as four companions. Afternoon guided tours are available daily throughout the run of the activity.
For DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Q. Bay, the program carries significance beyond sightseeing. “This is more than a free guided tour. This is a simple but heartfelt way of saying to our OFWs that their contributions and sacrifices are valued and recognized,” she said.
Bay also framed the initiative as part of a broader reintegration agenda, arguing that the process of helping returning migrant workers settle back home extends beyond economic assistance. “Reintegration is not only about jobs or livelihood. It is also about belonging. It is about making our OFWs feel that the Philippines will always be their home,” she said.
She further tied the program to the enduring identity OFWs carry while working abroad. “Our OFWs carry the Filipino spirit wherever they go. They help build economies abroad while creating a better future for their families and our country. Through this initiative, we want them to feel that home is ready to welcome them, and that their sacrifices are seen and valued,” Bay added.
The DMW credited the DOT and the Intramuros Administration for making the historic walled city accessible to migrant workers, describing the collaboration as an example of a coordinated government effort to honor OFWs.
