Over 1,800 Filipino seafarers cross Strait of Hormuz safely as DMW tracks more vessels

Nearly 1,834 Filipino crew members aboard 59 commercial vessels have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz between April and May 2026, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed, as the agency maintains close watch over maritime traffic through one of the world’s most strategically sensitive waterways.

The vessels involved span a range of commercial categories, including oil tankers, cargo ships, and container vessels operating in the region amid continuing Middle East tensions.

With passage activity still ongoing, the DMW reported it was tracking an additional 17 vessels potentially crossing the strait on May 25, carrying close to 300 more Filipino seafarers. The agency is coordinating with shipping companies, licensed manning agencies, and other relevant government bodies to maintain real-time communication and enable an immediate response if the situation warrants.

The DMW added that assistance and support services remain available to affected seafarers and their families throughout the monitoring period.
