TPS Abu Dhabi students sweep top honors at World Scholar’s Cup Dubai round

Fifty-one students from The Philippine School Abu Dhabi made their mark at the World Scholar’s Cup Dubai Regional Round last week, collectively hauling 99 gold medals, 105 silver medals, and seven trophies across multiple categories.

The competition, held from May 16 to 18, used two venues — Sunmarke School hosted the first two days of competition on May 16 and 17, while Arcadia Global School served as the venue for the combined final day on May 18.

TPS Abu Dhabi fielded 17 teams in total — three junior teams and 14 senior teams — marking the school’s third consecutive year of participation in the annual academic competition.

Junior Team 798 topped the Team Debate Junior Division, while Senior Team 915 claimed first place in the Team Challenge and earned a trophy. The same senior team also placed first among global qualifiers in the senior division, adding another trophy to the school’s haul.

Individual recognition also came for one student. Senior Team member Jullian David Agno was selected to compete in the Debate Showcase, a distinction reserved for standout debaters during the event.

Activities Coordinator Ma. Rebecca Del Rosario used the occasion to address Filipino students across the UAE. “To all Filipino students in the UAE, don’t be afraid to join competitions like the World Scholars Cup,” she shared with TGFM. “These experiences help you grow, build confidence, and showcase the excellence of Filipino students on the global stage. Believe in yourself, work hard, and proudly represent the Filipino community with competence and character.”

The school’s WSC participation has steadily grown since its first year. In November 2024, three TPS Abu Dhabi students advanced to the Tournament of Champions at Yale University in Connecticut — the pinnacle of the WSC season, where only teams that qualify through global rounds are permitted to compete.
