The Philippine Department of Health recorded an average of 51 HIV-positive individuals per day during the first three months of 2026, according to its latest quarterly surveillance report.
Data from the DOH’s January to March 2026 HIV-AIDS Surveillance of the Philippines Report shows 4,633 confirmed cases in the first quarter alone. “In January to March 2026, there were 4,633 confirmed HIV-positive individuals reported,” the department said. “The quarter average cases per day is 51.”
Sexual contact remained the dominant mode of transmission, accounting for 4,214 cases or 91 percent of the total newly reported infections. Among these, male-to-male sexual contact was the most common pathway with 3,095 cases, followed by male-to-male/female sex at 567 cases and male-to-female sex at 552 cases. “Sexual contact has consistently been the leading mode of HIV transmission among newly diagnosed cases,” the DOH said.
Monthly figures show January had the highest number of new cases at 1,690, with March following at 1,536 and February recording the lowest at 1,407 for the period.
Beyond sexual transmission, the DOH reported 13 cases linked to mother-to-child transmission and two cases involving the shared use of infected needles.
